Inaugural Summer Innovation Incubator! Deadline to Apply 6/5/18

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Innovation – Dr. Paul Roben – would like to invite undergraduate students with ideas from all disciplines to apply for the inaugural Summer Innovation Incubator. This is a pilot incubator program and 10 undergraduate students from across campus will be selected to receive a $2500 stipend and participate in the 8 week incubator to develop their idea.

The program is open to all undergraduates who will be continuing in Fall 2018. Students do not need to be a part of any current incubator/entrepreneurship programs or have entrepreneurial experience.

KEEN’s World’s Smallest Shoe Factory is coming to UCSD!

KEEN has built the world’s smallest shoe factory with UNEEKBOT and will be visiting UC San Diego on Tuesday, April 3. The UNEEKBOT is able to build a pair of customizable shoes in 6 minutes!

From 11-4 p.m. students are invited to stop by the Career Services Center and interact with the UNEEKBOT robot, experience the KEEN VR system, and enter for a chance to win custom shoes and other prizes. Afterwards from 5-7 p.m. KEEN will share about how to be innovative and entrepreneurial and students will be able to pitch their current start-up and entrepreneurial ideas to a panel of judges. Pizza and drinks will be provided. KEEN will select 2 winning teams for a $1,000 cash prize. Only students who stop by the Career Services Center for this event will be considered for their 2019 paid internship program (which includes housing). KEEN will also be selecting 3 winners for a 2-day trip to Portland, OR. Winners will go on a guided hike, check out the KEEN headquarters/factory, meet the KEEN team, and explore Portland. Flights and accommodations will be provided.

Cesar E. Chavez Undergrad Student Essay Contest Award

The César E. Chávez Planning Committee at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) is happy to present the 4th annual UCSD Undergraduate Student Essay Contest Award in honor of César E. Chávez.  The award will recognize students who have demonstrated commitment to the advancement of César’s core values at UCSD and abroad.  Winners will receive the monetary prizes and recognition in UCSD media publications. Prize Recipients will be asked to attend the César E. Chávez Celebration Kickoff Luncheon on Friday, April, 6th in the Price Center Ballroom.

Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, March 27, 2018.  All materials submitted become the property of the César E. Chávez Planning Committee and will not be returned to the applicant. Global Health Student Field Experience Travel Awards

The UC San Diego Global Health Institute has created a travel fund designed to support degree-seeking UC San Diego students who plan to participate in a GLOBAL HEALTH RELATED field experience program. The funds provide critical assistance to students, and help to increase opportunities for students to study, undertake internships, and conduct research projects. Priority will be given to students whose field experience travel is necessary to fulfill degree requirements either in the US or abroad. This field experience opportunity increases exposure to other cultures and understanding and productively intervening in processes of health, illness, and healing across the globe. International Field experiences will be given highest priority, but projects based in the US that have relevance to global health will also be considered. Funds proposed in the US should have a clear global health focus.

Funding up to $2,000/person to assist current students with domestic and/or international field experience expenses, available as stipends for summer travel, and reimbursement for travel during the academic year. Expenses from past travel may be reimbursed with these funds as long as the trip took place in 2018. Awardees will be asked to present their research poster/report at a global health conference such as the Horizons of Global Health Research Symposium and Field Experience Expo, Undergraduate Research Conference, Drinks and Dissertations: a graduate research symposium, or other similar forum appropriate to class level.

Eligible Applicants: Undergraduate, Graduate, EAP, & Professional Students

Requirements: Students must be enrolled during the coverage of the funds, with minimum 3.2 GPA and/or Good Academic Standing. Max. Funds: $2,000/student.
